Itineraries
Day 1
ARRIVAL IN ROME
Meet and greet with our representative at the Rome Airport and transfer to your hotel. During the transfer, our guide will do an orientation tour of the Eternal City. Enjoy a welcome dinner in a typical Roman restaurant. Rome is Italy’s capital and a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins like the Forum and Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire, while Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.
Day 2
ROME
Breakfast at your hotel. Meet our local Vatican expert for a tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica (skip-the-line tickets included). In the afternoon, explore Rome on your own: you can enjoy a walk through the small streets, watch locals interact at a coffee shop, or visit one of the hundreds of churches (you can find one at every corner!)
Day 3
TUSCANY & FLORENCE
Breakfast at your hotel, check-out, and travel north towards the spectacular region of Tuscany. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of vineyards, olive trees, winding roads, and medieval hamlets along the way! You will stop at a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation area for a tasting and lunch. In the afternoon, continue to Florence - the Renaissance capital of Italy - and check-in to your hotel. Florence, the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell'Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture and The Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.”
Day 4
FLORENCE
Breakfast at your hotel. Afterwards, you will meet an expert local guide and spend 3 hours discovering and learning about this magnificent city, known as the cradle of the Renaissance. A visit to the famous Galleria dell'Accademia is included with skip-the-line tickets.
The Galleria dell’Accademia – or Accademia Gallery – is most famous for its sculptures by the great Renaissance artist, Michelangelo. His Prisoners (or Slaves), St. Matthew and, above all, the magnificent statue of David within the Tribune are what draw most of the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the museum every year. The main halls at the Accademia also offer visitors works by other great Italian artists like Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, Allessando Allori, and Orcagna.
Day 5
FLORENCE TO VENICE
Breakfast at your hotel. Check-out and transfer to the magical city of Venice by high-speed train! Upon arrival, you will check-in to your hotel, and then embark on an afternoon walking tour of this magnificent city on water. Venice is the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region and built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the bell tower offers views of the city’s red roofs.
Day 6
VENICE
Breakfast at your hotel and a full day dedicated to exploring Venice at your leisure! You can take a boat trip to the islands of Murano and Burano (at an extra cost), or get lost in the city's labyrinth of narrow streets and find the hidden bàcari – tiny neighbourhood bars that serve up some of the city's tastiest food bites (cicchetti) and wine.
Day 7
VENICE TO CINQUE TERRE
Breakfast at your hotel and then departure for the amazing Cinque Terre by train via Milan! Check-in to your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at your leisure. Dinner at a local restaurant in the evening. Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the five towns, colourful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbours are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out seafood specialties and the Liguria region’s famous pesto. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas.
Day 8
CINQUE TERRE
Breakfast at your hotel followed by a private half day guided walking tour of these enchanting villages.
Day 9
CINQUE TERRE TO SORRENTO
Breakfast at your hotel and departure to Naples by train. Transfer from the Naples train station to your hotel in the enchanting town of Sorrento for a 3-night stay. Interest in Sorrento was first sparked by the poet Byron, who inspired a long line of holidaying literary geniuses - including Dickens, Goethe and Tolstoy - to sample the Sorrentine air. The romance persists. Wander through Piazza Tasso on any given Sunday and you’ll be exposed to one of Italy’s finest passeggiatas (strolls), snaking past palatial hotels, magnificent marquetry shops and simple Campanian restaurants serving gnocchi alla sorrentina.
Day 10
POMPEII & VESUVIUS
Breakfast at your hotel, followed by an excursion to Pompeii and Vesuvio! Enjoy a tour of this fascinating archaeological site with an expert local guide. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried in meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Near the coast of the Bay of Naples, this well-preserved site features excavated ruins that visitors can freely explore.
Day 11
AMALFI COAST
Breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy a full day on the Amalfi Coast, which you will reach by boat! The Amalfi Coast is a 50-kilometer stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region. It’s a popular holiday destination, with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. The coastal road between the port city of Salerno and clifftop Sorrento winds past grand villas, terraced vineyards and cliffside lemon groves.
