We jumped back on the bus and headed for the city of Lecce, also known as the “Florence of the South”, in the region of Puglia.  Upon our arrival, we quickly checked into our hotel then set out for a wonderful and comprehensive tour of the centro storico (old centre) with our personal guide Simona.  Lecce is a jewel and offers so much to see.

We saw the main square – Piazza Sant’Oronzo that boasts a Roman amphitheatre right in the middle, and walked the streets of this beautiful baroque city all the way to the magnificent Duomo all the while listening to the careful details and secrets shared by Simona.  This is where the tour ended.

Now it was time for pizza!  Have you ever heard of ordering pizza by the metre? Well here you can!  We surprised ourselves – a metre doesn’t go as far as one thinks.  It was great fun trying the different pizzas that were ordered.  Several metres later it was off to bed as another busy day laid ahead.
